Final Photos

These are my final images for my project on 'A Trace of Life'. I went to a local brewery for the day to take some pictures of the process behind making beer. I took tonnes of photos but had to narrow them down to 8 pictures which was extremely hard. I have followed the process of taking the raw material - malt and how it is then processed into beer.

first photography session - around campus.

I have started studying photography as part of my degree at Sussex University. These photos are from the selection I took during my first photography session at the beginning of January, I was practicing with depth of field.

These two photos show how I practiced using depth of field. I changed the focus of each photo to see what the difference would be.

I'm really pleased with the photo below, it is very asethically pleasing. The sharp focus on the twigs and moss in the pond is a good effect.

I love the way I managed to capture the reflectionof the buildings in the photo below, it makes the photo quite unusal.

The lighting on the photo below is very dark and could really do with editing to make the leaves more visible. At the moment the photo is almost to dark to see.

stanmer park

I went on a photography fieldtrip to Stanmer Park. I was able to practice using different angles to take more interesting and abstracct photos. Taken in week 6, 17th February 2011.

I think the photo below works really well. I took the photo with the camera placed on the floor to bring out texture of the floor while still with the door all in the shot.

I also practised with objects in front of the lense to see if that helped make a photo more abstract/interesting. I think the way in which the old iron gate is present in front of the church (in the photo below) compliments the picture well as it follows the ancient feel to the photo.

In the photo below I managed to capture a plane in the sky with the church steeple. This therefore works well in representing new modern society as well as traditional society too. It contrasts the old with the new.

Had the lighting been better and the sign cleaner the photo below would have been really successful. It is quite an ironic photo in the way the sign resembles 'no entry' yet the background is contrasting in that it is of open landscape. Nature represents freedom.

In the photo below I tried to stick to the 'rule of three' idea in that I kept the tree within the left hand side of the picture and the pile of logs in the bottom, horizontal third.

I also aimed to make this photo follow the rule of thirds in that the tree is in the far right third of the photo, therefore the focus isn't just on the tree and the landscape is still shown as an important part of the picture.

I liked the way in which these photos framed the road (in the photo below) so I attempted to portray them as framing the photo though it can be seen that I should have been closer to the subjects for this to have been successful.

I took a photo of peoples shadows as this is quite an abstract way to capture images of people. It leaves their identity a mystery. I could consider using this style for my portrait in my final project.
